Bookclub ~ Girl with the Dragon Tattoo~

This months bookclub book was Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson and I have to say that it is one of my favourite books we have read so far. I am a sucker for thrillers and murder mysteries so this was right up my alley. The first 90 pages are pretty difficult to get through but once your passed that you can barely put it down, I had to skip an afternoon of classes when I got to the really good bits. The characters are developed well and the structure of the book makes it easy to read. It was quite violent at times however it didn't overpower the rest of the story. It was a great book for bookclub as it lead to a long and detailed discussion about the characters and particurly about what would happen in the proceeding books. Have you read it? What did you think? I wanted to go and see the movie but unfortunately it has left the cinemas so I will have to wait until it comes out on dvd. Next months book is The Time Travellers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. I am unsure if I will like this book but I guess that is the beauty of bookclub, reading things you might otherwise not choose.

  1. I am dying to read Girl with a Dragon Tattoo. I've heard so much about it that I went looking for it last week but apparently they were short on stock.

I tried reading Time Traveller's wife but couldn't get past the first ten pages but I've heard it's beautiful once you read all of it.

  4. I've been wanting to try and read this book and I had heard that the first bit is hard to get through but I hear so much about it that it makes me curious. I didn't mind The Time Traveler's Wife but I don't think I liked it as much as some people do. It's definitely an interesting read though. x

  6. wow, that book is in my list of books to buy in English, since I buy them on play.com for incredible cheap prices. I just read the comments there about it and I was quite afraid to buy it, so I thought to buy others first. I read in English, but as you can imagine it isn't my first language so I am afraid to do not understand it very well. Well isn't the English that scares me, but the way that the writers writes, do you understand? I've read some books in English and it's okay.

Can you be a "outsider" from English language and tell me if you think the author has a intricate way to write?

    Much love,
    Joana

  7. I loved The Time Traveler's Wife. It was so interesting, romantic and heartbreaking. Have to say, I preferred the end of the film to the end of the book though...

Right now I'm reading Water for Elephants. Can't put it down!

  10. I'm in the middle of the Time Traveler's Wife and I have to tell you, I'm struggling. Some of the detail is just to much. I hear it's really good so I keep going but at points I'm totally annoyed by the absolutely unneeded detail. I am trying to finish before my husband floats off for a week so that I can watch it while he's gone. So, that means I have 1 week to get it done. I think I can manage that.

  11. I have heard so much about this book and am a total sucker for thrillers and mystery. I am also definitely the kind of girl to blow off an afternoon of class for a book - haha you are too funny! I am luckily on vacation, so I am looking forward to reading this by the pool next week. Thanks for the reccomendation!
