I have been on the hunt for new books to read in 2011, I always like to have a long list of books to read so that I can just flip to my list at the bookstore or on Book Depository and grab something that I will hopefully enjoy. Even though I love Bookstores I sometimes get overwhelmed so I find it easiest to go prepared. This is just a quick post to share where I have been getting my inspiration from  in case you are also on the hunt for something good to read.

Lauren has just started a book recommendation section on her blog, that is a quick and easy reference guide to her favourite fiction novels. The comments section is also useful as readers have also noted their favourite books.
Books I have noted down from Lauren: The Road: Cormac McCarthy, Enders Game: Orson Scott Card, Clockwork Angel; Cassandra Clare and Matched: Ally Condie.

I always look forward to reading Zoe's book reviews on her blog 'In the Next Room' they have the right amount of detail and I find that her book interests are similar to mine so am likely to enjoy something she recommends. I also enjoy the honesty and frankness of her reviews.
Books I have noted from Zoe: Water for Elephants: Sara Gruen, Zoli: Colum McCann; The Art of Disappearing: Ivy Pochoda; Left Neglected and Still Alice by Lisa Genova

I discovered Clare Marie after she commented on my blog and have been reading through her 'Sunday Reads' posts this morning. Interesting, personal and detailed reviews that I now look forward to visiting every Sunday.
Books I have noted from Claire Marie: The Gargoyle: Andrew Davidson, The Luminous Life of Lilly and Aphrodite: Beatrice Collin

I am currently reading Unsticky by Sarra Manning which is chick lit on steroids but I am actually enjoying it which is unusual, a good break from my usual book picks.

  1. great post! i've started reviewing the books i read on my blog as part of my new years resolution to finally read all the books on my shelves. i love book recommendations xxxZ

  2. I loved Enders Game and I want to read Water for Elephants as well.

  3. I have 3/4 of the books in that photo in exactly the same editions!

  4. I like chick flicks occasionally. I love Lauren's list of books because I love many of the same ones. I've read Ender's Game and it was good. Matched was great!!

You should read The Mortal Instruments also by Cassandra Clare. Clockwork Angel is a prequel to the series. They are all fantastic!!

I too want to read The Road and Water for Elephants. I need to branch out with my books though so thanks for the recs.

  5. Thanks for the great links! I love any sources on good books to read! I'm currently reading To Kill a Mockingbird. When I finished uni I decided I was going to read some classics that I have always wanted to read. Now I have loads of books on my list!! :)
    x x

  6. Thanks for all great sources for some good reads! It's been awhile since I've been in the middle of a good book and I'm longing for that "can't put it down it's so good" feeling again. I need to seriously make time to start reading again so I appreciate this post!!!

  7. I love talking about books. Right now I'm reading the True Blood books (shhh!) but I usually like to read more mature literature. Haha. Some of my favorites: A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant by Anne Tyler, A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole (crack up laughing till you can't stop funny), Push by Sapphire (devastating but amazing), The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy . . . that's what's coming to mind for now but I will keep thinking of good ones!

  8. Thanks so much for the link to my blog, lovely! Glad you enjoy my reviews, I enjoy writing them so it's great to hear that people like reading them :)
    Claire x

  9. While away on holiday I bought The count of Monte Cristo and I am enjoying it, although I have started a couple of books and have yet to finish them. I hope I get to finish two before uni starts...I seriously doubt it though. What I always do is have a look at magazines for book reviews and then jot them down if they interest me.

  10. There's another blog that has just started a series called "on my bookshelf"

  11. im always on the look for a good book list!! Bookstores are really overwhelming and you never know where to start!
On the weekend i trawled through oprahs bookclub choices, most were not available at my library but i found one called midwives or midwife or something and it seems pretty good at the moment! will check back when i am through my pile!

oh another good place to look is mamamia there have been a few book threads and HEAPS of people have commented with their favourite books! x

  12. Ooh, I can completely recommend Middlesex by Jefferey Eugenides. I read it in pretty much a week (which is a rarity for me!). I completely adored it! x

  13. i love getting book recommendations from bloggers...just another reason to love the blogging world.

am a little late to the party, but i am reading eat pray love right now and have the great gatsby on my nightstand right now.

thanks for posting lauren's book recommendation--will check that out soon!

  14. I haven't heard of most of these, I am definitely going to have to give them a go! I just started a book club, so we're always on the look-out for ideas :)

  15. I love chick lit but just HAD to check out the Hunger Games series after hearing so many US pals talking about it on my scrapping forum. I was addicted instantly and polished all 3 of them off in less than a fortnight. I highly recommend them Megan :) xoo
