Our kitchens rule

A group of friends and myself are having a little competition based on the show 'My Kitchen Rules'. Basically we take it in turns every Sunday night to cook an entree, main and a dessert for everyone in the group. We then score the meal and the winner at the end of the six weeks gets a dinner paid for them at a nice restaurant. So far we have had two very successful nights of cooking. It is a great way to start the new week knowing you have a delicious meal to look forward to on Sunday. Here is some of the delicious meals we have so far sampled.

Fig and tomato bruschetta

Salt and pepper squid

Prawn and tomato linguine

Flambe Bombe Alaska

So far every meal we have had has been delicious which means I am super nervous for my turn this Sunday. So far I have planned a country style theme, tomato and fennel soup for entree and a goats cheese tart for main but I am stuck on a dessert. Something chocolatey, a cheesecake? Custard? Some type of slice? What do you think?

  1. That sounds awesome! Is the weather getting colder there too? If it is, a lovely crumble (apple and berry, or something with rhubarb even) with some sort of lovely, decadent ice cream or cream would be perfect and fitting in with your theme of country home cookin'. Good luck when it's your turn... I'm sure it'll be awesome!

  2. I agree with Tez, an apple crumble with rich vanilla ice cream would be lovely! Or, chocolate macadamia brownies?

My brothers and sister and I are doing something similar, once a month we're all going to a different couples house for a three course dinner! We're not having a competition though, because there are so many different allergies in our family it wouldn't be fair, haha!

Can't wait to see your night!

  3. I'm soo not good with cooking so I'm completely jealous of your skills. This is such a great idea though!

All of this looks so good (too bad I'm not a seafood fan). As for your ideas love it! x

  4. that is so so so awesome that you guys are doing this!!!

  5. What a fantastic idea! I have a great recipe for baby chocolate lava cakes. It might be just the thing... They are rich and dark and creamy, and you can add vanilla ice cream or plain whipped cream and a few raspberries. Let me know if you want the recipe!

  6. That looks so fun and delicious! Similar to Erin's suggestion, you could try a hot fudge chocolate brownie topped with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla cream and sprinkled with walnuts.

  7. This is such a fun concept! I love it! As for a dessert, what about a flourless chocolate cake with raspberry sauce?

  8. What a fantastic idea! I love stuff like this. Dessert is tricky, but I can generally impress with an apple pie (I use sour cream in mine). You could make a lemon rosemary pound cake with ice cream? Or a cobbler (peach is my fave, but not sure what's in season for you right now).

I'll keep thinking on this . . . so eager to read all about what you make!

  9. this is awesome!

i'd like to speak up for the folks in the world who don't enjoy cooking....will we ever get a show that is about how we are the most wonderful and grateful eaters out there? i'd audition!

  10. Do something you can make in advance that morning, or even the day before, to save yourself stress and trouble. I would suggest a gorgeous dark chocolate tart, served with mascapone!
