A guide to my Autumn/Winter 2013 (dream) wardrobe

I love Summer but nothing beats dressing for Autumn and Winter! I love the layers - cardigans, coats, scarves and gloves, plus the colours - navy, olive greens, muted mustard's and maroons. This year my goal was to be a more savy shopper to buy things that will match my already existing wardrobe rather then buying things I like on a whim and then realising I have absolutely nothing that matches.

For Autumn/Winter this year I decided to create some inspiration boards so that when I do have some extra cash I can shop with  a  strategy. I actually went to the shops last week and  there wasn't a lot of on trend pieces that I really loved so I am going to work on building up  classic pieces this season.

bottom winter
J Crew long cotton skirt // J.Crew j. crew pants // Lucky brand //ASOS high waist skirt //ASOS loose jeans // Asos

I am really lacking good pants and skirts for winter so this is probably one area I need to invest in sooner rather then later. At the moment I am really drawn to bottoms that are in basic navies and black so that they can easily be mixed and matched with my colourful shirts and jumpers. By keeping the bottom palette more basic I am hoping to be able to create more outfits by mixing and matching.

winter tops

ASOS aztec cardigan // Oasis striped top // ASOS aran sweater // Shirts & Blouses, Denim Shirt, Buy Online // Contrast Trim Botannical Top | Portmans
I really needed a good stripey jumper for this winter, this one from ASOS is so soft and lovely. I didn't notice the pink stripe on the cuffs when I ordered it but I really like it, I think I will be wearing it a lot this winter. I also really want some cosy knits for those days where you want nothing more then to be comfy and warm - they also make great layering pieces.
all over
ASOS yellow dress // ASOS flare dress // Aso // ASOS Vintage Wash Dungaree

Sometimes I think that florals are just for Spring but I am definitely feeling more drawn towards the Autumn colours of some floral pieces. I am also loving more versatile black and pieces that can be dressed up or down. Whilst I really don't need any new dresses this season I have been wondering about some overalls (I havent worn overalls since I was 11). I always think Naomi looks so wonderful in overalls and I saw a lady rocking overalls at Zara last week so I am definitely tempted to give them a whirl again.

Autumn coats

ASOS double breasted military coat // ASOS double breasted pea coat // Aqua coat // Zara belted coat// Zara coat
I have an obsession with coats, in Canberra you wear them for nearly five months of the year so it is worth having a couple to choose from. This year I have added the above red and navy coat as they are classic colours that I will wear for years. I also really like the leather sleeves trend and I think the all black option from Zara is a great option to last a few seasons. I am also on the hunt for a great beige trench coat to wear during the transitional weeks.

Winter shoes
Frye high heeled leather boots // Hunter wellington boots // Red shoes // Zara leather shoes // Eat.Sleep.Wear yellow gucci loafers

Oh winter shoes how I love you. I think that shoes are the perfect way to add that little bit of pop to your winter outfit. The yellow and red would look fantastic with the more muted tones of winter. I have also been wating some Hunter wellies for ages and finally got my hands on some, I am now actually looking forward to a rainy day to test them out.
Last but not least are the accessories. This year I plan to wear ridiulously chunky oversized scarves and expand on my hat and beanie collection. I dont wear alot of hats but I think that it might be something I try and incorporate more. I also just ordered some thermal stockings that I cannot wait to test out!

So what are you looking for this season? Any wishlists in the making or are you prepared for the chilly weather? What trends are you liking?

  8. Great selections! I love autumn/winter wardrobes too and the layering that comes with it.

I use to have a great selection of coats when I lived in Canberra but when I moved to and lived in Brisbane for over three years that collection started to dwindle. I am however, happily building it up again! :)

I'm jealous of your wellies. I really REALLY want the dog printed pair from Joules and am trying to justify the expense because I don't often buy 'new' things like that. I think I'll probably cave soon!

Oh… and I love darker autumn florals too.

  9. what colour hunters did you get? It rains here all the time so they are perfect although I'm not sure if they are acceptable as work shoes - at my old work I wore them but not sure if I would get looked at weird if I wore them here.

I'll be in to full blown maternity wear once the cold weather hits!

  12. Loved reading this but now I feel like I need to drop everything and go shopping for a new wardrobe! A new trench coat is definitely on my list... might have to stop by Zara soon. Check out Country Road for their pants and skirts, so much choice, I have to restrain myself from spending money every time I step foot in there! xx
